The Advantages Of Edible Grasses

Over the last decade or so, people have been experimenting with lots of various kinds of powderized greens and herbs. Algae has become huge in the realm of green powders, and is now being produced commercially on a big scale in places such as Japan and Hawaii. It’s easy to spend lots of money on an expensive green powder, but is that the best way to go?

In my research of the various types of green ingredients that go into green powder formulas, I have started gaining more of an appreciation for the simple grasses that humans can eat. We’ve heard of most of them, varieties like wheat grass, alfalfa grass, and barley grass. There are two main reasons why I’m giving them more attention nowadays.

One big factor is the price. Top quality grasses are generally very cheap. They aren’t hard to grow and package. Algae, on the other hand, needs quite a lot more care to grow and process. A top quality grass usually only costs roughly $15 for a month’s supply. A top quality algae is about two times the cost for the same amount. It’s true that algae contains more nutritional elements than grasses, but the additional nutritional elements aren’t always worth the additional cost.

Grasses can actually have a surprising amount of nutritional value. Take alfalfa grass, for example. The alfalfa plant’s root system is able to stretch down 20 feet into the ground. This gives it the ability to absorb big amounts of trace minerals in a very bio-available form. And alfalfa actually has a surprisingly high level of protein, which you wouldn’t expect from a grass.

I’ve spent plenty of money on plenty of various kinds of green powder combinations. And while lots of the combinations have some major advantages, occasionally it’s nice to just find an inexpensive alternative like alfalfa grass that’s loaded with some great nutrients, minus the extreme price.

There are lots of green powder formulas out there these days. If you’re not sure about which one could be good for you, check out these in depth green powder reviews.
