Listeria infection is especially dangerous for pregnant women. The Listeria can pass from the mother to the baby, sometimes resulting in miscarriage or stillborn birth. Oftentimes, the baby is born with the actual infection and is vomiting and has diarrhea. It’s very important to report any type of flu symptoms to your doctor if you are pregnant.
Listeria in pregnancy is of particular concern right now in the fall of 2011. There has been an outbreak of Listeria due to germs on cantaloupes that were shipped to 25 states in the U.S. So, for now, refrain from eating any cantaloupe, especially if you are pregnant. You don’t want Listeria infection to jeopardize your baby.
